Abstract

Inclusive Leadership is crucial for transforming the landscape of education and researchers have highlighted absence of women in upper echelons of higher education leadership. This paper aims at studying women’s leadership in Indian higher education system by exploring experiences of leaders as significant factors in improving educational leadership for social justice. Qualitative data was drawn from focus group discussions conducted on 18 male and female Indian higher education leaders. The results highlighted women leadership as a remedy for a transformational change and suggested ways to repair the damage caused by inherent biases engrained in our socio – cultural structures and build inclusive ecosystems for encouraging diversity, inclusion and equity in the higher education leadership ladder from the gender perspective
