Abstract

As more African American women choose to advance their education later in life, the number of students in this demographic enrolling to pursue a doctorate is continuously rising. Findings of this study reveal Black women over the age of 50 are intentional, determined, and committed to completing their doctorate program primarily to leave an educational legacy for future generations of Black female doctoral students to improve their lives and elevate Black communities and society at large.
