Understanding Children-Nature Relationships Through Embodied Research Methods: Monsoon-Relationalities of Summer-Camp Participants

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This research study explored children-nature relationships in a week-long summer camp that was hosted at a Children's Museum in the South-West during the summer of 2023. Our research draws from scholarship in the environmental humanities with a focus on posthumanism, post-qualitative inquiry, environmental education, and ecofeminism. We focus on the theme of rain/monsoon and children’s emerging relationships with weather and show how there is a hyperseparation between children and nature and how embodied activities can help us engage with the more-than-human.
