Co-Creating Teacher Education: Iterative Course and Material Design to Increase Accessibility and Inclusion

Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 4

Abstract

In this study faculty, graduate students, and teacher candidates worked together to co-create principles and practices within a hybrid rural and remote teacher education program. Teacher candidates from equity-deserving communities took part in affinity circles with faculty, graduate students and teachers who identify as members of these communities, then these teacher candidates participated in sharing circles with the entire cohort to generate design principles to apply them to courses across the rural/remote Bachelor of Education Program. Materials were developed for two courses and the teacher candidates offered feedback regarding their design and content and for future materials using the design principles they had co-created in the previous semester.
