Black Women Leader Experiences: Remedies That Protect and Heal

Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 102

Abstract

This study will offer the opportunity for the voices of the unnoticed and unacknowledged Black women in educational leadership positions to be heard. Utilizing Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Black Feminist Thought (BFT) frameworks aid in ensuring that Black female voices are positioned in the center of the study. The one-on-one interviews offer knowledge of remedies that contribute to internal and external “repairs” of power structures, barriers, and microaggressions that are represented in school systems. This preliminary study’s findings revealed that some concepts such as their own personal experiences and beliefs were different and more challenging for them as Black female leaders, while their racial and school relationships and experiences were similar.
