Abstract

With the rise of the knowledge economy in the 21st century, postdoctoral fellows play a key role in competitive scientific research fields, but also face multiple pressures on academic career development. Using social cognitive career theory as the theoretical framework and data from the Nature 2023 Global Postdoctoral Survey, this study explored the relationship between organizational financial support, research self-efficacy, organizational belonging, and subjective academic career development of postdoctoral fellows. The findings suggest that the provision of organizational financial support can significantly enhance postdoctoral students’ positive perceptions of their academic careers, with academic self-efficacy and organizational belonging playing a positive mediating role. The study provides a new perspective for understanding the mechanism of organizational financial resources affecting postdocs' academic career.
