Nurturing Creative Self, Creative Thinking, and Ideational Behavior in Intellectually Gifted Adolescents

Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

Despite an emphasis on creativity in the definitions of giftedness, there has been relatively little empirical study of the implementation of creativity programs. This study investigated the effectiveness of a three-part creativity program and sought to determine its impact on intellectually gifted adolescents' creative self, creative thinking, and ideational behavior. Results showed that a series of creativity interventions can potentially contribute to the development of creativity in intellectually gifted adolescents. Statistically significant growth was found in participants’ self-reported creative self, creative thinking, and ideational behavior during their participation in the program. Implications for creativity programming are discussed.
