Exploring Three Pedagogies of “Youth Participatory Teacher Education” to Reimagine Social Studies Teacher Education

Abstract

While youth are the ultimate stakeholders of schooling, they are rarely consulted to share their knowledge in teacher education settings. This mixed-methods study examines a social studies methods class in which youth were active participants in pre-service teachers’ learning. We use critical qualitative research methods to explore how youth and pre-service teachers experience three different pedagogies: panels, rehearsals, and cogenerative dialogues.
