Abstract

This research delves into assessing the impact of social and emotional learning (SEL) programs, specifically identity based affinity groups organized by a racial equity organization for Black students and their families. Through the use of SEL evaluations and affinity groups, the organization's goal is to pinpoint and address systemic biases while advocating for fairness. Results from these initiatives demonstrate notable enhancements in social well being, student relationships and school spirit within the Black student community. This study highlights the importance of tailored SEL programs in nurturing a supportive and fair educational setting. By sharing these findings, we contribute to the broader conversation on incorporating SEL practices to advance justice and equality in education.
