Abstract

Each March, around 1.3 million students across Australia, including those from remote areas, participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). Over two weeks, nearly 5 million tests are administered, demonstrating NAPLAN’s significant impact. This annual assessment targets students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9, covering four domains: reading, writing, numeracy, and conventions of language. Except for Year 3 writing, all tests are conducted online. NAPLAN, implemented in 2008, transitioned to an online format from 2018 to 2022, featuring a multistage adaptive testing system that personalizes difficulty levels. Our digital poster will address online test delivery, adaptive testing, accessibility for students with disabilities, and ongoing research to enhance NAPLAN, fostering collaboration and innovation in national assessment practices.
