Throughout history, people of color have lived through periods of disruption as they have fought to realize the promises of the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. These periods of disruption have been and continue to be grounded in systemic racism. A reflective look at some of the events that were designed to deny access to educational opportunities people of color in the United States are illustrative of the extreme measures that have been taken to deny them educational opportunities.
