Abstract

This autoethnographic study explores the transformative journey of traveling to Bahia, Salvador, as a means of healing, renewal, and experiencing Black joy. Drawing from personal narratives and cultural immersion, the paper delves into the rich Afro-Brazilian heritage that permeates the region. Bahia, with its vibrant traditions, music, dance, and spirituality, serves as a backdrop for a profound reconnection with ancestral roots. The study highlights how the cultural practices and communal bonds in Salvador foster a sense of belonging and empowerment. Through reflective storytelling, the paper examines the emotional and psychological impacts of this journey, emphasizing the role of travel in personal growth and cultural affirmation. By intertwining personal experiences with broader cultural contexts, this research underscores the significance of Bahia as a sanctuary for Black individuals seeking solace, joy, and a deeper understanding of their heritage.
