Abstract

My research focuses on the aesthetic aspect of hip-hop culture and its potential integration into school curricula. I explore how hip-hop's creative elements outside the classroom can be utilized to challenge power structures, promote cultural sustainability, and counter hegemony within schools. Using a decolonizing methodology guided by critical race theory, I seek to illuminate the knowledge and experiences of educators of colour who advocate for educational equity. By understanding how Black youth engage with hip-hop culture, we can reconsider and reimagine education, shedding light on acts of resistance against systemic racism.
