Abstract

The Social Skills Improvement System – Social Emotional Learning Edition - Classwide Intervention Program for primary grades (SSIS SEL CIP) is a universal program developed for classroom use in the general education context to facilitate social behaviors of young children (Elliot & Gresham, 2017). Despite evidence regarding the broad influences and impacts of universal SEL initiatives, considerable gaps remain about how these programs specifically transform teacher-student relationships in racially diverse classrooms. By investigating the nuanced dynamics of SSIS SEL CIP implementation in diverse classrooms, this research aims to uncover the mechanisms through which SEL programs can foster equitable outcomes and determine how SSIS SEL CIP can be made more culturally responsive and inclusive ultimately contributing to the advancement of educational equity and excellence.
