As drag gains mainstream visibility across media, its presence in educational settings has grown, yet limited research examines the experiences of college drag performers and the impact of drag shows on campuses. In today’s hostile political climate, where queer and trans expression is under attack, it is crucial to address the sociopolitical challenges these performers face and their sense of belonging in higher education. This collaborative duo-ethnography brings together college student drag performers, queer student leaders, faculty, and staff to explore the role of drag as a form of expression, empowerment, and resistance. Our discussion underscores the importance of drag shows as spaces of visibility and cultural engagement, while considering how drag can foster identity development, challenge hegemonic norms, and inspire educational research and praxis.
