Thu, April 24, 3:35 to 5:05pm MDT (3:35 to 5:05pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3G

Abstract

This research focuses on a period of 15 years, 1954-1969 when The Brown Decision was issued and the last state, Mississippi, established minimal compliance with the federal law. The study's participants, The Elders, were the children of The Brown Decision and were school-aged during the years of 1954-and 1969, offering learnings of how their parents and community members developed networks and communication practices as tools to teach lessons of morality, dignity, work ethic, and survival.
