Towards an Afrofuturist Perspective on the Black Women and Girls of Brown

Thu, April 24, 3:35 to 5:05pm MDT (3:35 to 5:05pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3G

Abstract

In this presentation, I expand on the stories and experiences of Black women and girls through an afrofuturist lens. By doing so, I use a “centering approach” to illuminate the voices and contributions of Black women and girls. Further, I offer an afrofuturist reimagining of Brown that asks: What would it mean to invest in the educational success of Black women and girls? What possibilities can be realized when Black women and girls have full access to the educational resources they need? How might re-narrativizing through the lens of Black women and girls shift lead to the fulfillment and promise of Brown?
