Sat, April 26, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Mile High Ballroom 2A and 3A

Abstract

GPA matters. Class rigor matters. Test scores (might) matter. Zip code, ethnicity, income level, and family background matter. All of these things influence a student's opportunity for success in college. Yet, do their pre-college activities matter? Focused on connecting data between matriculated students’ Common App descriptive and activity sections with their degree progress, this paper aims to answer questions surrounding the impact of pre-college activities and their numerous variances on student success outcomes. Using AI and NLP, three years of CommonAPP data will be processed to see if we can better predict student success and create measures to catch those that might be inclined to fall behind. Data collection, findings, and analysis are in progress.
