Korean epistemology in education: Creation of new worlds amid the challenging times

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This presentation delves into Korean epistemology by exploring diverse perspectives on knowledge and truth in education. While Confucian traditions often draw criticism for promoting hierarchical ethics, this work emphasizes jungyong (中庸) and hwa (和) as vital relational concepts. Taoist ideas of interdependence (wu wei) and Buddhist notions of emptiness (śūnyatā) further illuminate the fluidity and interconnectedness of reality. By engaging this heritage interpreted by Korean philosophers, this presentation shows how educational researchers construct new epistemological and methodological frameworks to navigate the complexities of education in challenging times.
