Abstract

The Fairness Of Tests Has Been A Critical Issue In Education And Psychometrics (Angoff, 1993). Holland And Thayer (1988) Introduced The Term Differential Item Functioning (DIF) To Replace Item Bias, Referring To Items Functioning Differently Across Groups. DIF Occurs When Individuals With Equal Abilities But From Different Groups Have Varying Probabilities Of Answering An Item Correctly. Wang, Shih, And Sun (2012) Proposed The DIF-Free-Then-DIF (DFTD) Strategy For Detecting Uniform DIF, Demonstrating Its Effectiveness In Controlling Type I Error Rates. This Study Compares Results Of Uniform And Nonuniform DIF Under The DFTD Strategy To Evaluate Differences And Explore Potential Adjustments To Detection Methods.
