Abstract

In this relational ethnography (Desmond, 2014), I study the ways in which care informs the pedagogical practices of a trans-educator led, community learning organization in the U.S./Mexico Borderlands. I contend that in order for schools and policy makers to care for trans and queer individuals in palpable ways, they must incorporate the knowledge and experiences from these communities in their approaches. Through interviews and my insider-outside researcher position, I track the quotidian lines of care that connect and nurture the trans and queer participants and trans educators within this informal learning space.
