Fri, April 25, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Mile High Ballroom 2A and 3A

Abstract

This study explores the determinants of elementary school parents' participation in private experiential activities outside public education. Using data from the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study (SELS), the analysis examined 3,218 parents through a three-step approach. First, panel-logit analyses identified participation patterns. Second, latent class analysis categorized parents into Indifferent, General, and Enthusiastic groups. Third, multinomial-logit analysis highlighted key determinants, such as school-based career activities and parents' emphasis on balanced education. Findings showed that general demand for private activities was unrelated to satisfaction with school-led programs. The study recommends enhancing school field trips, incorporating foreign language-themed programs, and systematically reflecting parental demand to improve public school field trip policies.
