Sun, April 27, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Mile High Ballroom 2A and 3A

Abstract

While research suggests relationships between the domains of spirituality, social justice, and community engagement, students’ long-term development from faith-based critical service-learning (CSL) has been underexplored. Therefore, the purpose of this narrative study is to understand the development of spirituality and racial justice praxis of white alumni who were involved in a faith-based CSL experience as undergraduate students. Four participants engaged in three semi-structured interviews. The current stage of the project is data analysis, as data will be analyzed according to narrative configuration, plot analysis, story arc, and epiphanies. Cross-case analysis and critical engagement with whiteness will culminate the analysis. Findings and recommendations from this study will better support the development of students’ purpose and social justice commitments.
