Abstract

Secondary teachers play a crucial role in supporting foster youth, who face unique challenges inside and outside the classroom. This paper explores secondary educators’ experiences teaching foster youth, highlighting strategies employed and obstacles encountered. Key themes include building trust, trauma-informed practices, and navigating systemic barriers to academic success. Findings emphasize the need for professional development tailored to foster youth and cross-sector collaboration to provide holistic support. The study concludes with recommendations for educators and policymakers to prioritize foster youth’s unique needs, promoting equitable and supportive learning environments.
