Abstract

The Fukushima disaster on March 11, 2011, led to a significant environmental challenge. In August 2023, Japan began releasing treated wastewater into the Pacific, sparking global debate. This study explores public sentiment toward this event by analyzing YouTube comments using sentiment analysis, focusing on reactions from East Asian regions, Japan, and the United States. Preliminary findings indicate a predominantly neutral tone, with viewers favoring balanced perspectives. The results highlight YouTube's role as a critical space for public engagement on nuclear issues. This research contributes to understanding public perception and informs effective communication strategies for governments and media during similar environmental crises, emphasizing the importance of transparency and nuanced discourse.
