Women of Color Faculty: Counterspaces as a Form of Resistance

Sat, April 26, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Mile High Ballroom 2A and 3A

Abstract

This project seeks to examine how women of color faculty create community within counterspaces. More specifically, we will be examining how the spaces designed specifically for these women provide them with a welcoming and supportive climate through discussing unique topics with peers who have similar identities. This project will incorporate both quantitative and qualitative measures through interviews and a supplemental survey or questionnaire focused around a sense of belonging and community. Through this research, we hope to initiate transformative changes within academia’s policies and practices in prioritizing the creation and retention of effective and safe spaces for minoritized faculty.
