Abstract

This study, BUSOG Pedagogy: Building Community & Culinary Responsive Gatherings for Teachers, explores how curated gatherings centered around food and storytelling (kuwento) can offer Filipino American educators emotional and professional sustenance, promoting their well-being and retention in the field. Through ethnographic methods, this research examines how culturally rooted practices help Filipino American teachers reflect on their experiences, wellness, and needs in schools. By fostering a sense of community and collective resilience, the study aims to uncover how such gatherings contribute to the sustainability of educators of color. The findings will inform strategies for addressing the high turnover rates of Filipino American teachers and improving their professional fulfillment, ultimately contributing to educational equity.
