Abstract

No other subject in school influences this identity construction as deeply as History – for when we learn the stories of the world, we also learn to define, and redefine, stories of ourselves. History textbooks encourage particular ways of thinking about history. One way of understanding the stories discussed in the history classroom is by analyzing history textbooks, which is the focus of this study.
