Civics as Survivance: Unsettling Curriculum in Lenapehoking (Poster 29)

Abstract

Through work with Lenape Center, social studies teachers, and students in New York City, this humanizing research project investigates the creation and implementation of PreK-12 curriculum that supports Lenape futurity with a sample of non-Native youth and teachers in NYC. The study findings highlight ways to support teacher and student unlearning of settler curriculum using Pewewardy’s Transformational Indigenous Praxis Model (2022) and a community assessment to encourage further research in NYC classrooms.
