Abstract

This qualitative study explores the impact of ChatGPT on creativity among undergraduate students at a Midwestern U.S. university. Through semi-structured interviews with 10 participants, the research identifies ChatGPT as a valuable tool for academic support, idea generation, and creative thinking. Students appreciate its ability to provide quick, diverse perspectives and aid in brainstorming. However, they express concerns about over-reliance on AI, lack of emotional depth, originality, and potential ethical issues, such as plagiarism and fairness. ChatGPT is seen as useful for sparking creativity but cannot replicate human creativity's intrinsic qualities. These findings underscore the need for a balanced integration of AI tools in education to enhance creativity without undermining human ingenuity.
