Abstract

This study investigated factors contributing to adolescents’ positive perception of social media as a tool for academic improvement. We collected self-report data from high school adolescents (N = 419). Based on the structural equation model results, we found that the perception of social media for academic improvement was positively associated with peer connectivity and Internet self-efficacy (ISE). We also identified the mediating role of ISE in the relationship of the perception of social media for academic improvement and peer connectivity. This research underscores the need for educational strategies for the effective use of social media, emphasizing the importance of Internet self-efficacy and positive peer connections. This study provides insights for integrating social media into educational settings.
