Abstract

The Taxonomy of Significant Learning is a widely-used categorization of learning outcomes that provides an intentional focus on goals which are often not articulated or are undervalued in college, such as developing values, making broad connections, learning about oneself and others, and strengthening metacognitive skills. Yet no comprehensive reviews have been conducted about the use or impact of this taxonomy. This poster presents the results of a scoping review exploring how the taxonomy has been used over the last 20 years to guide, design, and study teaching and learning. Because the taxonomy is promoted for holistic, meaningful, and equitable education goals, a better sense of its impact can allow college educators to make informed decisions about its use.
