Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3D

Abstract

Examined in this paper is the concept of African Indigenous Knowledge (AIK) through a Pan-African lens and addressing its role in reducing educational inequities. AIK has been marginalized in educational research through the centering of Eurocentric frameworks. As such, the discussion will focus on how a Pan-African approach might unite African descendants to reclaim AIK and advance cultural affirmation and equity. Further discussion will focus on whether Integrating AIK into education combats systemic racism, cultural erasure, and economic disenfranchisement. Finally, the discussion will emphasize the importance of decolonized research methodologies and community-based collaborations and highlight AIK's significance in achieving equitable education on a global scale.
