Session Type: Symposium
This session will examine four different perspectives on the changing paradigms of school counseling that address the impact of policy on practice, preservice education, and research-based recommendations to strengthen student outcomes. Three research papers and one conceptual paper, involving school counselors, educators, and leaders, will address topics such as the impact of state policy on NYC school counselors, the transformation of school counseling education, and the self- and collective efficacy of counselors, principals, and teachers. In this session, we emphasize collaboration, equity, and the evolving role of school counseling in meeting students' academic, social-emotional, and career development needs. A discussant's analysis and a panel discussion will follow the presentations, providing opportunities for further dialogue and engagement.
