Abstract

Initiated at the 1997 Annual Meeting in Chicago, the 2025 session of “The Continuation of Conversations with Senior Scholars on Advancing Research and Professional Development Related to Black Education” is returning to Denver for a second time. This will be number 28 for this popular and widely heralded series. (Though scheduled in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the session’s cancellation for that year.) The 27th session was successfully held in April 2024, in Philadelphia.

We were granted Presidential Session status in 1999 in Montreal—thus, the Denver session will mark 29 years as a Presidential Session. We have some of the most notable education scholars in the country participating heading tables as topic discussion leaders. In 1997, we started with 12 tables and now we will have 22 tables for 2025. A new table addressing AI in education and in educational research has been added. Over the years, we have averaged approximately 10-12 participants per table, not counting topic leaders. We have had as many as an estimated 300 participants attending the session.

As in the past, we will need enough room and tables for the expected number of participants. The number of participants per topic table varies and can range from 7 or 8 to up to 30 or more. Further, we continue to need enough chairs where participants can form large circles needed for popular topics. Notably, the room in Philadelphia accommodated the session quite well. Thus, we continue to be thankful for the room accommodations that have been provided.
