Session Type: Symposium
Despite recent policies on and rhetoric of 'inclusive education,' children at the intersection of disability and migration deal with multidimensional systems of power and oppression that define their in-/exclusion. The fields of migration and disability remain divided by disciplinary boundaries (Pisani & Grech, 2015), and scholarship on inclusive education rarely addresses these children's experiences. Recognizing this gap, the session unites three studies on migration and disability in education. The presentations question existing knowledge and highlight diverse and heterogeneous experiences of people at the juncture of migration and disability. Further, the present session advocates for a socially just education system that acknowledges and responds to the needs of all and not only some.
