Competing Stressors: Examining Ways to Support K-12 Educators' Coping and Well-Being

Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 302

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Educators are vital to school mental health efforts and are constantly asked to do more to support students in distress. However, current initiatives around educator mental health training often ignore the added job stress and well-being of educators themselves. In this session, we address teachers’ stress and well-being across four empirical papers: (1) national policy and trends in educator mental health competencies, training, and alignment with their well-being, (2) Tier 1 interventions that develop educators’ mental health literacy and well-being, (3) roles of interprofessional collaborations (e.g., teachers and school mental health professionals) as organizational mechanisms for well-being, and (4) research to practice tools to support educator well-being. This session addresses research, policy, and practice implications in teacher education and learning.
