Session Type: Symposium
This symposium discusses transnational perspectives in bilingual education, emphasizing the rich knowledge and values that children and pre-service and in-service teachers bring. Specifically, it explores diverse facets of transnational experiences: reconceptualizing sociocultural competence in dual language bilingual education, highlighting Mexican-origin pre-service teachers’ transnational experiences, leveraging Chinese bilingual teachers’ intercultural strengths, investigating the racialized experiences of Chinese transnational teachers in Utah, and employing virtual reality for bilingual children’s storytelling. This symposium underscores the importance of honoring transnational knowledge to decolonize bilingual education and reshape discourse, paving the way for more just and equitable education.
