Session Type: Symposium
This symposium explores the educational experiences of Asian American children and families, emphasizing culturally sensitive and inclusive approaches. It features four interconnected studies exploring identity, economic status, literature representation, and community dynamics. The first study addresses the need for socioculturally attuned social and emotional learning (SEL) frameworks for Asian American children. The second study reveals significant research gaps regarding poverty, highlighting that 2 million Asian Americans live in poverty. The third study advocates for inclusive, culturally responsive children's literature. The fourth study examines the lived experiences of Asian American families in predominantly White neighborhoods, focusing on cultural isolation and heritage language preservation. Together, these studies underscore the importance of inclusive, equitable educational settings for Asian American children and families.
