50 Years of Southeast Asian Refugee Resettlement: Research and Reflections on Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement

Sun, April 27, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 104

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This proposed REAPA SIG session brings together Asian American education scholars who have contributed to the development of the Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement’s (JSAAEA) book Research and Reflections on Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement (Wright et al., forthcoming). It is JSAAEA’s 20th anniversary and our session highlights some ways that the journal’s emergence in 2005 represented a timely intervention across various fields of study that examined Asian and Southeast Asian American education. This symposium session will shed light on Southeast Asian American communities in the U.S. education system, particularly as 2025 marks 50 years since the fall of Saigon which initiated the resettlement of large numbers of Southeast Asian refugees.
