Session Type: Symposium
Schools and Communities Organizing for Racial Equity (SCORE) intentionally disrupts traditional academic research approaches and centers the wisdom of community members. This session focuses on the work of preparing, implementing, and reflecting on our SCORE project, ultimately with hopes that other researchers can apply what we learned. The session elevates the need for community members to hold decision-making power in community-based research (CBR); describes how we worked in partnership with parents and youth to explore solutions to longstanding problems in public education; highlights institutional and internal challenges with our process; and closes with an initial evaluation of our work.
