Session Type: Roundtable Session
In this symposium, four Asian American women education scholars focusing on language and literacy studies come together to discuss how they critically challenge the monolithization of Asian American identities– the dehumanizing flattening of the diversity of identities within the Asian American community– existent in education scholarship using counter- (Ladson-Billings, 2013) and re-storying (Thomas & Stornaiuolo, 2016) with and alongside our communities. We will discuss how we have used the stories from our own life experiences and those of our communities to center Asian American identities and literacies in our scholarship and praxis. Collectively, our symposium will explore how, from our particular vantage points as Asian-American women, we strive to work towards the healing and liberation of ourselves and our communities.
