Session Type: Symposium
Teacher recruitment and retention has been a persistent challenge for the last 25 years, particularly in “hard to staff” schools. The Great Resignation in teaching, however, highlights the ubiquitousness of unsustainable working conditions across all types of schools. This interactive symposium featuring a panel of researchers and (former) K-12 educators considers both teachers in crisis and how teaching as a profession is in crisis from local and global perspectives. By connecting research and teacher experiences, the interactive symposium collaboratively considers how remedies centering educator and student humanity can provide pathways to educational equity that can repair the harm done by current educational systems and their focus on standardization, performance, and efficiency.
