Session Type: Symposium
Scholarship in instructional design and technology (IDT) has long neglected ethical and social issues that, in fact, are embedded features of the complex problems practitioners work to address every day (Moore & Ellsworth, 2014; Reeves & Lin, 2020; Moore, 2021). In the past few years, attention to these issues have become pronounced, as evidenced by numerous publications on ethics and AI in education as well as work related to diversity, equity, justice and inclusion. Building upon last year’s symposium specific to AI in education, we seek to organize a discussion and prompt brainstorming on strategic initiatives around a set of complex educational challenges that designers and practitioners confront in practice but that remain relatively sidelined in research.
Addressing Complex Social Issues in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence - Michele D. Estes, James Madison University
Informal Learning in the AI Era: Challenges and Opportunities - Lauren Bagdy, University of Georgia
Harnessing AI to Enhance Student-Centered Learning: Elevating Agency and Sense-Making in Education - Cathleen K. Kim, Pacific Lutheran University
Navigating Ethical Challenges in AI for Instructional Design: Strategies and Solutions - Stephanie Moore, University of New Mexico
