Session Type: Symposium
Trauma is inextricably linked with race, class, gender, sexuality, and other dimensions of identity. Minoritization – in particular, everyday experiences with systems of white supremacy, homophobia, sexism, and others – is thus an inherently traumatizing force. As more attention is given to trauma’s impact on education, perspectives that account for the ways in which trauma and identity intersect are crucial. In this interactive session, perspectives on the intersection of educator trauma and identity will be presented, spanning faculty, staff, and health professions educator experiences. After a panelist Q&A, attendees will gather in small groups to discuss the ways in which their own work might contribute to a broader understanding of the nuances of educator trauma and identity.
