Session Type: Symposium
This symposium brings together racial, linguistic, environmental, and socially just science education scholars whose research centers on pre-service and in-service teachers teaching science in various learning settings and methodologies. Following culturally relevant frameworks and pedagogies such as Critical Race Theory (Ladson-Billings & Tate, 1995), Authentic Caring (Valenzuela, 1999), and Translanguaging (García & Wei, 2014), this panel presents critiques and possible solutions to teaching science from an equitable and asset-based perspective. Panelists share how they have centered critical frameworks in their science education fields, courses, and research areas.
