Session Type: Symposium
An interactive symposium panel will present and discuss findings across three STEM-focused interventions supported through Jacob K. Javits funding. Collectively, the projects served and the research focused on students in Grades 1 through 8 and the educators who provided STEM experiences to them. Although project designs and research questions differed across the projects, commonalities emerged. First, advanced instructional strategies and rigorous curriculum were offered widely to students. Second, protocols for universal screening and application of local norms were developed and implemented in each project. Finally, teacher professional learning was a critical component in the development of STEM talent. Two discussants will offer their perspectives; panelists and audience members have the opportunity to respond to questions posed by the symposium chair.
