A School-University Research Practice Partnership: Why, How, and What's Next

Wed, April 23, 10:50am to 12:20pm MDT (10:50am to 12:20pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 111

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium will describe and reflect on the Consortium on Educational Research and Improvement (CERI), a formal research practice partnership between a large urban school district and a private university. Three studies covering middle school grades will be presented as exemplars of the consortium’s approach to partnership. The papers provide a unique lens into the work: one describes a large scale effort to bridge in and out of school learning, one focuses on the experiences of a single teacher and their classroom, and the third reflects a district-wide effort to remedy a persistent problem in math achievement. The three exemplars represent the past, present and future of CERI; they highlight common challenges in RPP work as well as innovative approaches.
