Session Type: Symposium
Systemic SEL includes four key implementation dimensions, one of which intends to strengthen adult SEL competencies and capacity. However, much of the extant adult SEL scholarship focuses on competencies (e.g. self-awareness, relationship skills), at the expense of program-agnostic SEL capacities (i.e., the attitudes, knowledge, skills, and confidence to do something differently). Each paper takes up a different aspect of SEL capacity while drawing from different data sources. This symposium explores how the field of SEL can continue to build capacity of in-service educators to cultivate spaces where children and adults can thrive.
