Session Type: Roundtable Session
This session explores research-practice partnerships (RPPs) aiming for equitable transformation by scrutinizing power dynamics in co-design interactions. Existing literature underscores the critical role of equitable design in achieving shared goals, yet highlights persistent challenges in mitigating traditional power imbalances. Papers in this symposium employ diverse methodologies to analyze how tensions and negotiations shape equitable co-design across various contexts—from justice-centered teacher planning to climate justice education, mathematics teacher adaptive professional development, and family school engagement. By examining discourse and interaction patterns within RPPs, the session seeks to deepen understanding of power distribution dynamics and their implications for sustained partnership efficacy. Ultimately, these studies contribute methodological insights and theoretical frameworks for fostering more equitable and effective collaborations in educational research and practice.
